The 86th annual Academy Awards took place in the Dolby theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on Sunday March 2.
Host Ellen DeGeneres broke social networking records after her star studded selfie was retweeted millions of times on Twitter.
The picture included a host of big celebrities: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt , Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts, Jared Leto, Channing Tatum and Lupita Nyong’o.
There was uproar on social media sites’ regarding the “Best Actor” category when Dallas Buyers Club actor Matthew McConaughey was awarded the Oscar to the expense of The Wolf of Wall Street actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Many loyal “leo” fans took to Twitter and Facebook to voice their disappointment at this decision, the result was made harsher with the fact that DiCaprio has never won an Oscar before.
Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her portrayal of Jeanette “Jasmine” Francis in Jasmine, 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture and Alfonso Cuaron was the worthy recipient of Best Director.
One of my ultimate personal favourite films The Great Gatsby won two awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production design.
Frozen, another cheeky favourite of mine captured the heart of many Disney fans over the Christmas period and unsurprisingly won the Oscar for Best Original Song for “Let it go” which is performed by the talented Idina Menzel.
As with every Academy Awards ceremony there were some supreme fashion coups and some cringe worthy styling disasters.
Pharrell Williams is renowned for his individuality but in this instance the singer looked more stupid than chic as he wore a short pants suit and to make matters worse it had been raining all day in Los Angeles, I think he was given some bad style advice there!
Jennifer Lawrence once again made headlines, this time for dramatically falling on the red carpet much to the paparazzi’s delight.
In general, the style at this year’s Oscars ceremony was extraordinary with the overall theme being the pale colour palette.
Lupita Nyong’o, Cate Blanchett, Naoimi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence are just some of the pick of the best dressed ladies on the red carport.
Nyong’o, Blanchett and Watts chose soft colours which worked perfectly on them while Lawrence wore a red, full length peplum gown.
While not nominated for any awards, Kate Hudson, Emma Watson and Penelope Cruz looked absolutely stunning.
As always we were treated to the usual handsome men in suits, nominees Leonardo DiCaprio and Matthew McConaughey looked dashing while Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch also looked dapper as ever.
There were also amazing music performances on the night from U2, Idina Menzel, Pharrell Williams, Pink, Bette Midler and Karen O.
