Kate McGlennon was crowned Miss Clare 2014 at the annual contest held on Saturday April 26 in the Auburn Lodge Hotel, Ennis.
Miss Clare 2011 Esther Woods, Miss Clare 2012 Hazel McMahon, local photographer Patrick McHugh and Mr Ennis Gerry Lane were the adjudicators on the night.
The judge’s jobs were made very difficult because of the extremely stiff competition on stage, each contestant came on stage for a 7/8 minute interview with the host in front of the judges before the judges narrowed the 16 contestants down to a “Top 6”.
The “Top 6” consisted of Lisa Sexton, Rachael Hickey, Lorraine Tubridy, Naoise McCormack, Rachel Mullane and Kate McGlennon.
Second runner-up went to Lorraine Tubridy, first runner-up was Naoise McCormack and the fantastic Kate McGlennon was deemed a worthy winner.
Deric Hartigan of 3e made the trip down from Dublin to do MC and throughout the night he had the crowd in stitches, his anecdotes and innuendos kept the contestants and the audience on their toes.
Judge Hazel McMahon even joked that Deric should be the next Miss Clare after his terrific performance on stage.
All the evening wear for the contestants was provided by Breda’s Boutique on Parnell Street, Ennis.
Kate was awarded host of fantastic prizes including jewellery, a sash, a crown and flowers and she will now go on to represent the county at the Miss Ireland Pageant in Dublin during the summer months.
